The GPE Secretariat and the whole GPE family of partners mourn the loss of a dear friend and colleague, Djibril Ndiaye Diouf, who passed away on August 22, 2019.

Djibril was the GPE focal point for Senegal for many years and was a respected voice listened to by his peers and within the wider partnership.

Beyond being a proud representative for his country, Senegal, he was also an ambassador of the Africa 2 constituency on the GPE Board of Directors. He was a recognized leader who regularly, with passion and determination, brought forward issues of strategic importance for all partner countries.

Djibril was one of the architects of the partnership approach that prevails today in GPE.  The quality of dialogue within the partnership owes a lot to him. With wit and humor, he strengthened the dialogue between countries and between the different stakeholders of the partnership.

Djibril played a key role in organizing GPE’s Financing Conference held in Dakar in 2018, a huge success and the largest event of its kind to date. Djibril had deep and thorough knowledge of education issues. The list of his contributions to GPE is long, and his influence will be lasting.

He will be missed by all his friends throughout the world. The GPE Secretariat sends its deepest condolences to his family and friends in Senegal.
