In April 2017, the Global Partnership for Education Secretariat approved the following additional financing:

US$66,630 for The Gambia to strengthen the education sector analysis as well as to improve the current education sector plan

This additional financing will bring the total education sector plan development grant amount to US$387,362. The additional financing will be used to strengthen the analytical grounding of the education sector analysis as well as providing an opportunity to fill key gaps in knowledge. It will also support the design of a strategy to address the challenge of out-of-school children as part of the education sector plan.

The World Bank, a key partner of the Global Partnership for Education, has been nominated by the local education group to be the grant agent on behalf of the Government of The Gambia.

Education Sector Plan Development Grants from the Global Partnership for Education are intended to help countries perform strategic, consultative and analytical work to develop or revise their sector plan. Of the maximum grant amount of US$500,000, US$250,000 is reserved for education sector analysis, and the remainder for additional studies or to develop the sector plan.
