Ottawa, ON May 29, 2017 - Today, international advocacy organization Global Citizen announced Global Citizen Unplugged, an event to call for Canada to support education on the fringes of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Board Meeting in Ottawa.

Among those in attendance at the event on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Chateau Laurier, will be Julia Gillard, Board Chair of GPE and former Prime Minister of Australia, Alice P. Albright, CEO of GPE, and The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau , Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, for an evening of music and advocacy. Global Citizen Unplugged will feature an intimate acoustic set by Sam Roberts.

Displaying public engagement and support for education around the Global Partnership for Education’s Board Meeting in Ottawa is a critical step in securing broader support and engagement from the Government. The event will provide an advocacy moment that will reach those who would not typically be engaged in the topic of education. One of the key causes Global Citizen supports is global education, and the replenishment for GPE, which will require an unprecedented surge in global funding.

Global Citizen Unplugged serves as a follow up to a Global Citizen-hosted event in February, where Julia Gillard met with local civil society organizations, Emily Haines, and members of parliament to discuss Canada’s role in achieving global education for all.
