Four regional hubs are being established as part of the GPE Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX). The hubs will act as the central mechanism to connect GPE member countries, surface policy challenges and responses, and support knowledge mobilization and exchange. National governments will lead the process of selecting country delegations to participate in the regional hubs.
Following a call for proposals, the organizations below were selected to design and operate each of KIX's regional hubs:
Anglophone Africa:
- A consortium comprised of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the African Union will manage the Hub that oversees activities for 19 GPE partner countries, primarily Anglophone.
Francophone Africa:
- A consortium comprised of the Institute de la Francophonie pour l'éducation et la formation (IFEF), Conférence des Ministres de l'Éducation des États et gouvernements de la Francophonie (Confemen) and the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) will manage the Hub that oversees activities for 20 GPE partner countries, primarily Francophone.
Asia-Pacific, Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia:
- The Network for international policies and cooperation in education and training (NORRAG) will manage the Hub that oversees activities in 21 GPE partner countries.
Latin America and the Caribbean:
- A consortium comprised of SUMMA, the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and the American Institutes for Research (AIR) will manage the Hub that oversees activities in eight GPE partner countries.
The GPE Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) connects expertise, innovation and knowledge to help developing countries build stronger education systems and progress toward SDG 4: inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
KIX consists of a knowledge sharing and exchange function, where partners come together to share information, innovation, challenges and best practices; and a funding mechanism that provides grants at global and regional levels to invest in knowledge generation and innovation and to scale up proven approaches. With a budget of over US$75 million, KIX is the largest fund solely dedicated to meet global public good gaps in education.
Together with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) - the KIX grant agent - we are excited to see the range of implementing partners come together and look forward to the work of bringing the regional hubs together and issuing the first round of KIX Regional Calls for Proposals in 2020.
