In this video, education activists ask decisionmakers in Germany to step up and finance the GPE #RaiseYourHand campaign to support education for millions and girls and boys around the world.

Aid to education

As of 2015, Germany’s focus areas for basic education in development cooperation are:

  • Early childhood learning
  • Primary education
  • Promoting mother-tongue education
  • Secondary school education
  • Non-formal education.

Promoting education is a priority of Germany’s overarching development policy in the 2017-2021 coalition treaty. The agreement outlines Germany’s focus on education from basic education to post-secondary education. It further suggests a stronger focus on digitalization and e-education as well as a new partnership with regional development banks to strengthen vocational training.

In 2017, the top recipients of basic education ODA disbursement were: Jordan, Mozambique, West Bank and Gaza Strip, Malawi, Honduras.
