Aid to education
As of 2015, Germany’s focus areas for basic education in development cooperation are:
- Early childhood learning
- Primary education
- Promoting mother-tongue education
- Secondary school education
- Non-formal education.
Promoting education is a priority of Germany’s overarching development policy in the 2017-2021 coalition treaty. The agreement outlines Germany’s focus on education from basic education to post-secondary education. It further suggests a stronger focus on digitalization and e-education as well as a new partnership with regional development banks to strengthen vocational training.
In 2017, the top recipients of basic education ODA disbursement were: Jordan, Mozambique, West Bank and Gaza Strip, Malawi, Honduras.
* Germany's contribution covers the period 2018-2022. For this reason, its share of the 3rd replenishment pledges goes through to 2022.
